Softball defeats Reedsville; Falls to Random Lake and Xavier

The Lancers defeated Reedsville but fell to Random Lake and Appleton Xavier in girls fastpitch action last week.

Monday the Lancers displayed strong defense in the 11-3 win over the Panthers and were in the lead starting from the first inning. Junior Jenna Lischka led the defense with 8 assists and 3 put-outs, including a double play. The Lancer defense was also able to throw runners out at third and home from the outfield, with juniors Bella Darvanian and Hailey Marohn in on the assists in left and center. Lischka’s bat was hot from the start with a triple in the first inning, and she reached home on an error. Sam Siehr helped to seal the victory in the sixth inning with a shot up the right baseline resulting in a triple. Siehr had 3 RBIs.

Wednesday the Lancers lost 15-7 at Random Lake, with senior pitcher Aubry Schleis takingSenior girls on the Lancer softball team celebrate Senior Night at the home game Thursday against Xavier. the loss. Thursday was Senior Night in the home non-conference game against Xavier, which unfortunately the Lancers lost 8-1. The Lancers' lone run was earned by Lischka with an over-the-fence homerun. Senior Sydney Stubbe, who has been unable to play this year because of shoulder surgery, was subbed in as pinch runner for one pitch after sophomore Madison Luebke got on base with a hit, giving Stubbe the opportunity to touch a base for her Senior Night.

In JV action last week, we tied with Reedsville 4-4 and lost to Random Lake 11-1, and are now 0-4-1. Against the Rams sophomore Emily Rogne came in to pitch after starting pitcher freshman Maya Keil was hit by a batted ball. Rogne held her own and had several strikeouts.

The week the Lancers varsity, now 2-7 (2-5 Big East), will play 2.5 away games: they travel Tuesday to Cedar Grove-Belgium (1-6 Big East), then finish the "rain delayed" game against Roncalli (0-10) on Wednesday, and then on Thursday play a doubleheader at Howards Grove (2-4, 2-3 Big East). All games begin at 4:30pm.

Our JV squad has a different schedule than varsity, traveling to Stockbridge Monday (TODAY) for a 5pm game, hosting Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Tuesday at 4:30pm, and then meeting up with Stockbridge again, but at home this time, on Thursday at 4:30pm.
