Baseball Loses to St. Mary Catholic; Busy Week Ahead

This past Tuesday the Lancer baseball team hosted the Zephyrs from St. Mary Catholic and lost the battle, 13-3.  Sophomore Brayden Zirbel took the loss for the Lancers, pitching 4 innings and giving up 6 runs while recording 1 strikeout.  Senior Ethan Menges came in relief and pitched 3 innings, giving up 7 runs with 3 strikeouts.

Cameron Strutz stretches for the out at first base during the game at Oostburg April 12th.On the offensive side, the Lancers managed just 7 hits over the 7 innings of play with sophomore Noah Czarneski recording 2 of those. Senior Casey Stanzel recorded 2 RBIs.

In JV action this past week, the Lancers played the Raiders of Two Rivers High School and lost 7-6 on Thursday night. They are now 3-1.

This week finds the Lancers (2-2) (2-2 Big East) playing three Big East conference games. TONIGHT (Monday) we host the Reedsville Panthers (3-2) (2-1 Big East) with the first pitch set for 4:30pm at Lancer Field. JV plays at Reedsville, also at 4:30pm. On Tuesday, the Lancers travel to Random Lake for a 4:30pm game. Random Lake sits on top of the Big East standings at 5-0 in conference play with an overall record of 8-4. JV hosts Random Lake's JV team for a 4:30pm game that same day. And then Thursday we host Ozaukee for a 4:30pm varsity conference matchup.

Good Luck to our Lancer Players!

Girls Track Takes Second Place at Big East North and Brillion Invites

The Lancer girls track team finished in a close 2nd place at both of its invites last week, on the backs of many personal and season bests by our athletes. On Monday at the seven-team Big East North Meet at St. Mary Catholic (SMC) in Neenah, our girls athletes accumulated 151 points, just behind invite champion SMC, which had 159.5 points. Then Friday the Lancer girls originally thought they had won the eight-team Brillion Invite by a slim margin, but a scoring error was discovered after the meet, and the Lancers' 147 points were just 5.17 points behind invite champion Kiel, but more than 45 points better than third place SMC.

At the Big East North meet we captured six first-place finishes, five second-places, and two third-places as well as many other scoring finishes. Senior Emily Marohn took first in the 300m hurdles (50.27) and the triple jump (35' 6.75"), senior MonRaye Ermis won the shot put (36' 4.5"), senior Brooklyn Luebke captured the 800m (2:31.52), sophomore Taylor Schuettpelz won the 400m (1:11.98), and freshman Trisha Kiss won the 1600m (6:27.72). Taking second place were Ermis in the discus (91" 0"), senior Emma Miller in the high jump (4' 4"), junior Isabella Blauert in the 100m (13.90), freshman Selah Schulz in the 400m (1:12.97), and our 4x400m relay team (4:45.90) of Blauert, Schuettpelz, and freshmen Ginevra Ermis and Addie Korte. Senior Grace Zander took third in the 1600m (6:41.80) and our 4x200m relay team of Isabella Blauert, sophomore Peyton Luebke, and freshmen Bitsy Blauert and Maren Dewane also took third (1:58.19). Full results are at www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/meet/463089/results/all."

Brooklyn Luebke races confidently in the 3200m at the Brillion Invite Friday. On Friday at Brillion's "Sting Cancer" Invite, our top girls track and field athletes delivered great performances to lead the team as we almost upset Kiel from the top spot. Our seniors Emily Marohn, Brooklyn Luebke and MonRaye Ermis alone nabbed eight first place finishes and one third place finish, and we had many other point-accumulating finishes as well. Luebke took three first place finishes as she won the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m at one meet, an exhausting and uncommon trifecta. Her times for the races were 2:29.03, 5:32.74, and 12:21.43, respectively. Marohn took first place in her two hurdles races and the triple jump, while capturing a third place in the long jump. She raced the 100m hurdles in 17.45, the 300m hurdles in 50.6; jumped 34' 1.75" in the triple jump and 15' 10" in the long jump. Ermis captured both the shot put and discus titles, throwing 35' 11" in shot and 107" 11" in discus.

Second places at Brillion were earned by our 4x100m (54.67) and 4x200m (1:56.36) relay team, with the same athletes in each race: the Blauert sisters, Maren Dewane, and Peyton Luebke. In addition, Isabella Blauert took third place in the 100m (13.65) at Brillion.

Full results from the Brillion "Sting Cancer" Invite are on pttiming.com. The girls initially celebrated as it was announced at Brillion that they had won the team title, so some disappointment ensued when the scoring mistake was discovered. Coach Abbey Bubolz commented, "At Reedsville the week before, Kiel had beat our girls by 60 points, so this was still a great meet for the girls."

This week the Lancer JV track and field athletes will compete Thursday in Kohler at the Big East JV Meet. Field events start at 4pm; running events start at 4:30 pm. Admission will be charged. Then our varsity teams will be in action on Friday at Two Rivers High School for a large 13-team invite, including ten Div. 1 or 2 schools. Field events begin at 4:00pm; running events begin at 4:15pm.

God speed to our Lancer track and field athletes!

Lancer Softball Falls in Two Games and Has a Weather Suspension
Our Lancer softball team fell in two games this week and had a third game suspended in the third inning Saturday due to rain.

Aubry Schleis makes a pitch during the game against Hilbert/Stockbridge on April 19th.Tuesday we played a close one as we hosted St. Mary Catholic. Down 8-4 in the 5th inning, the Lancers fought back, tying the game 10-10 in the 7th inning on the strength of sophomore Hailey Marohn's and junior Jenna Lischka's singles, forcing extra innings. A few Lancer errors in the top of the 8th inning allowed the Zephyrs to score 2 more runs. We could not answer with any runs of our own, and lost to SMC 12-10. Lancer bats were alive with 16 hits during the game. Sophomore Madison Luebke went 4 for 4 with 3 singles and 1 double. Adding to Luebke’s hits was senior Aubry Schleis with 2 triples and 1 single.

The Lancers traveled to Sheboygan Falls Friday, losing 11-7. Sophomore Bree Hanson led the defense in the Sheboygan Falls game with 7 assists, 2 put-outs and no errors. She was followed closely by Lischka, who had 3 put-outs and 2 assists, including a diving catch in the infield. Lischka's bat also was active with 4 hits: 1 triple, 1 double, and 2 singles.

Saturday's game against Roncalli encountered rainy conditions that suspended it in the bottom of the third with the Jets up 7-5, and the Lancers on defense with 2 outs recorded. Highlights of the start of that game include freshman Maya Keil catching a high line drive for a double play at first base, and the Lancers have already recorded 7 hits in those first 3 innings. Coach Erin Hulse said they are hoping to finish this game against the Jets in the future.

Last week Tuesday our JV played against St. Mary Catholic, with no score being kept -- each team batted through its lineups. JV also played Roncalli on Wednesday, losing 16-1, and are now 0-3.

The Lancer varsity, now 1-5 (1-4 Big East), has a busy week, starting with two conference games: hosting Reedsville (2-2, 2-1 Big East) today (Monday) and traveling to Random Lake (8-3, 5-1 Big East) Tuesday. Both are 4:30pm games. (If Tuesday's game would need to be postponed it will instead be played on Wednesday.) Then Thursday we welcome Appleton Xavier (2-4) to Lancer Field for a 4:30pm non-conference game. Our JV squad also hosts Reedsville tonight, at 6pm, and travels with the varsity to Random Lake on Tuesday for a 6:30pm JV game.

Let's get some wins, Lancers! God's blessings!
