Softball Gets Two Conference Wins; Falls to Roncalli

The Lancer girls fastpitch softball team captured two conference wins last week against Cedar Grove-Belgium and Howards Grove but fell in the finish of their rain-delayed game against Roncalli.

The Lancers traveled to Cedar Grove and overwhelmed the Rockets 11-3 on Tuesday behind senior Aubry Schleis's pitching. Schleis pitched the complete game, striking out 14 and walking 7, allowing only 2 hits and 3 earned runs. The Lancers' offensive leaders were junior Jenna Lischka, who went 3 for 4 with a triple, a double, a stolen base, and 2 RBIs; junior Hailey Marohn who was 2 for 5 with a triple and a double, 2 stolen bases, and an RBI; and sophomore Madison Luebke who was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs.

Bella Darvanian beats the throw at third during the game against Reedsville on May 2nd.On Wednesday the Lancers traveled back to Roncalli to finish the rain-delayed game from May 2ndThe game started in the bottom of the third inning with the score at 8-5 in favor of Roncalli, and a 2-out, bases-loaded situation for the Jets offense. Pitcher Aubry Schleis had a strong start to the game, getting the third out of the inning with a strikeout. Unfortunately, the Lancers struggled in the field, while Roncalli’s bats were alive, and we lost 14-6. Hailey Marohn had 3 singles, while juniors Sam Siehr and Lischka each hit a double for RBIs. Sophomore Bree Hansen got the Lancer offense going with her hot bat, garnering a single and a double.

Thursday the Lancers took their frustrations out on Howards Grove, soundly defeating the Wolves 24-1 in a game called after a 10-run fifth inning for the Lancers. The Lancer bats started coolly in the first inning, but then heated up, led by Siehr who hit 2 in-the-park homeruns and a single, totaling 8 RBIs. Lischka was a defensive machine with 4 put-outs, 1 assist, and no errors, and she took control in the field, catching pop flies and covering her areas really well, including a diving catch. Schleis pitched a great game, with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks, and only 2 hits.
