Several Runners Set New Personal Bests at Lincoln Park!

The Lancer Cross Country team competed in Manitowoc on Saturday 9/10 at Roncalli Invitational. The meet was held at Lincoln Park and teams in attendance were Roncalli, Valders, Two Rivers, Sevastopol, Kewaunee, Howards Grove, and St. Mary’s Springs. It was our first Saturday meet and the Lancer runners showed up ready to go with 18 new season personal bests!

Boys Varsity and JV raced together to start the day off. The Boys’ Varsity team took 3rd place just missing out on a team plaque by 4 points to Valders in 2nd place. Two Rivers took the team title. We had 5 Lancer boys in the top 20, each earning medals for their efforts. Jacob Kanzenbach led the way in 7th place with a time of 18:47. He was followed closely by teammates Seth Ciha in 9th place (18:55) and Jonah Melso in 11th place (19:02). All 3 of those boys were over a minute faster than last year at this meet. Ryder Vogt earned a medal by finishing 16th (20:05) and Joey Ungemach finished in 19th place with a 20:35. Trenton Schuettpelz and Braden Revak both ran season personal bests to round out Varsity. The JV boys were the only boys team out of the 8 teams that had enough boys to have a team score so the JV boys took 1st place led by Ricky Li in a 24:18 (an almost 2 minute personal best for him).

Girls Varsity and JV raced together for the 2nd race of the day. The Varsity team took 7th in the 8 team meet beating cross-town rival Roncalli. The Lancer girls were just 1 point away from 5th place with Howards Grove and Kewaunee tying in 6th and 7th place with 173 points to the Lancers 174 points. Two Rivers won the girls’ team title with Valders taking 2nd. They will have a chance to see Kewaunee again on Tuesday. The top girls’ finisher for the Lancers was sophomore Trisha Kiss placing 28th with a time of 24:25 followed by Lizzy Kolar in 30th with a 24:41. The JV girls were one of only 2 teams to field a full JV team and finished 2nd. In recent years we have had a difficult time fielding a full JV so it was fantastic to have 6 JV girls out there on Saturday-many of them completing their 1st or 2nd race ever.

The next meet on the schedule for the Lancers is the Crusader Challenge at Sheboygan Lutheran on Tuesday 9/13. Boys Varsity runs at 4:30 pm, Girls Varsity at 5:15 pm and JV Boys and Girls together at 6pm. Results will be at tracksidetiming.com. Our second meet this week is Saturday 9/17 in Mt. Calvary at the infamous “Big Bertha” course hosted by the St. Lawrence Hilltoppers. This has been a staple meet for the Lancers in our 28 year history. If you have run cross country at MLHS you have most likely run Bertha! There is an open race at the end for anyone that wants to experience it for the first time or again, Alumni? Girls Varsity at 10 am, Boys Varsity 10:45 am, JV Boys and Girls together 11:20 am, Open Race/Fun Run 12:15pm.

Lancer Football Falls at Howards Grove

It makes for a difficult game when the starting quarterback goes down early, that is what happened on Friday night as the Lancers fell 40-14 at Howards Grove. Junior quarterback Brayden Bennett went out of the game in the 2nd quarter after suffering a blow to the head. Sophomore Logan Brooks stepped up and played tough in his first ever varsity action at quarterback. But the Tigers offense proved to be too much for the Lancers.

The Lancers offense was primarily led by the rushing attack after Bennett went down, leading the Lancers in rushing was sophomore Kamden Baye who carried the ball 18 times for 76 yards, senior Caleb Uhlhorn rushed for 22 yards on eight carries and a touchdown, and junior Kaden Storzer carried the ball six times for 20 yards and a touchdown. Defensively the Lancers were led in tackles by Uhlhorn with 14 total tackles, followed by Brooks with eight, both players also recovered fumbles during the game to account for the Lancers two takeaways.

This week the Lancers (0-4) host the Cedar Grove Belgium Rockets (2-2) at 7:00pm at Lancer Field! Come on out to cheer on the Lancers!

Volleyball Moves to 3-6

Wednesday evening the MLHS gym was lively for the home matchup between the Lancers and the Mishicot Indians. The Lancers were only able to capture the third set of the match falling 3-1 to the Indians. The Lancers did not have to wait long to clean up their game as they travelled to Hilbert to take on the Wolves. With some adjustments made to the lineup the Lancers proved to make progress taking down Hilbert in 5 sets 3-2. Way to go Lancers!

The Lancers do not play again until Saturday (9/17) this week when they return to Hilber to play in a varsity tournament this weekend Good luck Lancers!
