Carry Your Cross

Service means focusing on someone other than myself. But that's not how my sinful nature - my natural "self" - is wired. So denying that sinful nature, denying my "self", is extremely difficult. It's like carrying a cross. But that cross that Jesus gives us drives us to his cross, and is therefore a blessing.

We will hear about crosses from the outside and inside, and how crosses are also blessings. Our chaplain for the week is our Admissions Director and freshman science teacher Mr. Ryan Holper.

We will hear about the different types of crosses we all have. The internal, external, and how crosses are also a blessing. We welcome Pastor Johnston from First German on Friday who will be our guest pastor.

Join us for chapel via livestream every day but Wednesday next week. (Chapel times can be found on the home page of the school website under upcoming events.)

Pastor Benjamin Radtke has returned our call to serve in the theology department. We pray for him as he will continue to serve St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD. Please continue to pray MLHS as we move forward with this vacancy, the Lord of the church always provides.

We are excited that Mr. Joel Barthel has returned his call to Illinois Lutheran and will continue to serve at MLHS. Our Principal, Mr. David Uhlhorn, still deliberates his call to Michigan Lutheran Seminary to serve as Vice President. Mr. Jeff Dolan still holds his call to Trinity Brillion for grades 7-8. This week our technology director Mr. Kevin Buch received a call to serve as science teacher and technology director. Please keep all of these men and their families in your prayers. Feel free to reach out to any of them.

Big News:  THE MATCH is Still On!

The MLHS building project continues to move forward with plans to break ground this summer.

The board of control will approve a plan for what gets done afterwards based on funding, cost of the particular stages of the project, and an approved line of credit. The goal is to see the project through to its completion while also being good stewards of the resources we’ve been given by God’s people.

The donors of the $600,000 match have agreed to extend the match past March!!! What a blessing!

This year our National Honor Society traveled to sunny and warm Arizona for their annual service trip. This year twelve students along with two chaperones flew to serve at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Springerville, AZ.

"When I was told we were going to be canvassing and handing out door hangers, I was nervous and thought there was no way this could ever get someone into church. However, on our last day there, I was told that one of the families that Taylor and I had given a handout to, was going to start coming to church. After that, I knew the purpose of why I had gone on this trip and it this was one of my first experiences of carrying out the Great Commission."

-Senior Brooklyn Luebke

"The NHS trip was a great opportunity to use our time and talents to serve the Lord and the churches we visited- and we got to enjoy beautiful Arizona weather and landscape!"

-Senior Jenna Gries

"Canvassing was actually one of the greatest parts of the trip. We could see the spread of God's word in action as we left movies and flyers on doorsteps, and even had the chance to personally talk to some of the people living there. There were some people who saw us and really appreciated what we were doing!"

-Senior Emma Kracht

Robotics Team Update

The team left for their second regional of the year this past week which was held at The Lacrosse Center (Seven Rivers Regional) with teams attending from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota. Saturday alliance picks found them competing further when picked by TermiKnightors from Milwaukee to join their alliance along with Stateline Robotics from Rockton, Illinois. Hard fought battles were won during the quarter finals but the alliance failed to advance in the semi finals.

Robo Remedy will have their final robotics event Saturday, April 9th with a combined Lakeshore Robotics Open House at the Lakeshore Robotics Educational Center on Wollmer Street from 1:00-3:00pm.

In a new ‘Marketing in the Digital Era’ class this semester, a group of Juniors and Seniors, with the guidance and supervision of Mr. Gurgel, has created an online store with various Lancer apparel and items available for purchase.

In this class, students read in an online textbook and use strategies they learn to help improve their shop to drive in more customers.
