Girls Softball Splits Games in First Week of Play

Lancer shortstop Jenna Lischka gets ready to field an at-bat during the game against Oostburg Tuesday.Even though the temps were cold, the Lancer bats were hot in their first game of the season at Oostburg on Tuesday, coming away with the 25-11 victory.  Senior pitcher Aubry Schleis got the win with 5 strikeouts, pitching the full 7 inning game.  Leading the way offensively was junior Jenna Lischka with 3 singles and a triple.  Also hitting triples were seniors Maddie Franz and Schleis.

On Thursday the Lancers played their home opener in extreme wind and even some snowflakes.  The Lancer bats were cold that night against Mishicot (defending state champions), dropping the game in 4 innings by the score of 16-0.  Schleis picked up her first loss of the season, striking out 3 and walking 5.  She also recorded the Lancers only hit of the game. Lischka was the top defender of the night with 4 put-outs, 2 assists and no errors.

The Lancers play two conference games this week. On Tuesday we host HIlbert/Stockbridge, and then we travel to Elkhart Lake on Thursday. Game times are at 4:30pm. There are no JV games this week. Go Lancers!

Boys Baseball Finally Hits the Field; Goes 1-1 in First Week

The weather cooperated long enough for the boys baseball teams to play their scheduled games this past week. On Tuesday our Lancers traveled to Oostburg to take on the Flying Dutchmen. Trailing  0-6 entering the 7th inning, the Lancers' rally came up short, and they suffered a 6-3 loss. Senior Zackary Koenig recorded the loss, pitching 4 innings while giving up 3 runs. Senior Casey Stanzel came in relief and pitched two innings while also giving up 3 runs. Each pitcher also recorded 3 strikeouts. Offensively, junior Sawyer Stuebs had 3 hits and 1 RBI, and Stanzel recorded 2 hits and 1 RBI.

On the mound, senior Ethan Menges recorded the win, pitching 5 innings. He gave up 2 runs and recorded 6 strikeouts. Stanzel came in relief once again and pitched the final 2 innings giving up 1 run and recording 4 strikeouts.
