Girls Track Takes First Place at Hilbert and Oostburg to Begin Outdoor Season

The Lancer girls track and field team took first place at both of their quadrangular meets last week. Tuesday's meet at Hilbert featured first place finishes by our Lady Lancers in seven events, while on Thursday we captured nine first place event finishes at Oostburg.

Due to wet field conditions, only two of the normal six field events were held in Hilbert. Seniors MonRaye Ermis and Emma Kolar won those events, with Ermis taking first in the shot put with a 38' 3.5" throw, and Kolar jumping 4'6" to take first in the high jump. Senior Brooklyn Luebke won two events, taking the 1600m run in 5:40.42 and the 800m run in 2:34.39, finishing each twenty seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Other first places were won by senior Emily Marohn in the 300m hurdles (50.97), sophomore Peyton Luebke in the 200m (30.81), and our 4x400m relay team of freshmen Maren Dewane, Addie Korte, Ginevra Ermis, and Bitsy Blauert (4:46.63).

Coach Abbey Bubolz commented on the first two outdoor meets, "Performances on Thursday were in the rain for most of the evening. The athletes had great attitudes and embraced the weather. They understand how valuable it is for us to be on a track, good or bad weather. Plus, sometimes our big meets at the end of the year aren't in perfect weather so we learned how to prepare properly for less than ideal conditions. Our team place in these small meets does not impact end of season results. Our objectives at these meets are to get comfortable with doing things on a track such as handoffs, hurdles, and cut-ins, things that we cannot completely replicate at school. Also, we use these as time trials to determine our best line up for bigger invites later in the season. Additionally, we also use these small meets to help the athletes experience a variety of events. It helps them gain confidence and continue to build technical skills in their events."

The Lancer track and field teams have one meet on the schedule this week, a five-team meet of Big East schools Tuesday at Random Lake at 4:30pm. The Lancer girls will be trying to stay undefeated against other Big East teams this season. Other schools at the meet include Cedar Grove-Belgium, Sheboygan Lutheran, and Oostburg. Come to Random Lake to cheer our Lancer tracksters on to great performances!

More Baseball and Softball Games Postponed/Cancelled Due to Weather

Our Lancer batters are still waiting to get onto the field to start their seasons, as once again all baseball and softball games on the schedule last week were canceled or postponed due to weather or field conditions.

Baseball Head Coach Paul Durkee recommends that parents, students and fans keep their eyes on the MLHS social media pages for game changes and updates, and added, "Other than that, be ready for lots of games per week once we get to play!!" The Lancer varsity baseball team is hoping to open the season at Oostburg Tuesday for a 4:30pm game. If that game gets canceled or rescheduled, then they'll hope to play this Thursday in the Green Bay Booyah's stadium at 4:30pm against Mishicot. Our JV baseball team has the opposite schedule, hosting Oostburg at 4:30pm on Tuesday, and then playing at Mishicot on Thursday at 4:30pm.

The girls varsity fastpitch softball team is also scheduled to play at Oostburg at 4:30pm Tuesday, and then has a home game against Mishicot on Thursday at 4:30pm. Our JV softball team opens its season with a 5:45pm game tonight (Monday) at Valders, and then plays Thursday at 4:30pm at Mishicot.

Please use the MLHS online calendar, the individual sports calendars below, or check our social media pages to stay up-to-date on all athletic cancellations and postponements. We pray for competition to start soon for our baseball and softball teams; come and support your Lancer teams!
