Weather Continues to Interfere with Start of Outdoor Sports Seasons

The weather continues to play havoc with the start of the Lancers softball and baseball seasons -- all games on the schedule last week were canceled or postponed due to weather or field conditions. This week all three of our spring sports have outdoor competitions scheduled, which we'll preview below, but bear in mind that with the wintery weather continuing, more games may need to be postponed.

The girls softball program has canceled or postponed their first four games on the schedule, and is hoping to get in at least one of their three scheduled games this week. However, Tuesday's scheduled softball home opener against ELG has already been canceled. Still on the schedule are away games Thursday (4:30pm) and Saturday (11am) at Sheboygan Lutheran and Kewaunee, respectively. Head Coach Erin Hulse comments, "Weather is not looking good this week at all for our games. We are hoping to get out on the infield at some point. The girls enjoyed getting some pop flies in on Friday outside -- and their spirits have been high, and they are motivated and working hard."

The first two games of the baseball season were canceled last week, and already one of the scheduled baseball games for this week has been canceled. Still currently on the schedule for this week is a 4:30pm Thursday game at Sheboygan Lutheran and a 1:30pm Saturday game at Kewaunee. But Coach Paul Durkee is not hopeful they will be able to play those games, saying "I would heavily bet on them not happening. Another tough week of cold and wet or indoor practices. It's really important for the guys to stay focused during these indoor practices so we are ready for our first game. The first time we actually get the chance to be on a field may be our first game, so we have to do the little stuff right now."

The Lancer track and field team has their first two outdoor meets on the schedule this week, with a 4:30pm quadrangular meet at Hilbert Tuesday, and another quad scheduled for Thursday at Oostburg at 4:30pm. These both are full varsity and JV meets, with over 45 Lancer athletes competing at each. Head Coach Abbey Bubolz is also not sure the meets will happen, though, with rain and cold temperatures in the forecast for both days. She notes that there is "lots of discussion happening today" about the meets.

Please use the MLHS online calendar, or the individual sports calendars below, to stay up-to-date on all athletic cancellations and postponements, and come and support your Lancer teams when they do start competing!
