Boys Baseball Season Preview - Lancers Return Eight Letterwinners

The Lancer boys baseball team returns eight letterwinners, including six starters, to this year's squad that finished 9-9 overall last year with a conference record of 8-4. Senior August Hecker was a 2nd team all-conference selection last year at shortstop, while fellow senior Casey Stanzel was an honorable mention pick at 2B.

The Lancer program has a total of 23 players this year: 8 seniors, 2 juniors, 6 sophomores and 7 freshmen. Head varsity coach Paul Durkee, who is in his 7th year at the helm, noted, “We are not breaking up the team into Varsity and JV as of yet. With so few juniors there will be a taxi squad of sophomores to play varsity.” Durkee feels that defense will be the strength of this year's team, and that the Lancers will finish in the top third of the conference, with St. Mary Catholic, Ozaukee, and Random Lake being the teams to beat.

Durkee's assistant coaches are Jeff Dolan and Dylan Koski. A.J. Lorrigan is the JV head coach, assisted by Guy Gast. Jon Meyer will be the new statistician for the year.

Tuesday, March 29th is the first scheduled game at home against Algoma at 4:30pm; however, it is likely the field will not be playable by then. Please check the online MLHS Calendar to get up-to-date information on game postponements and cancellations throughout the spring sports season. The second game on the schedule is a game at Brillion this Saturday, April 2nd at 11am. The JV squad's first game is also scheduled for that day against Brillion, but is a home game at MLHS at 11am.

One game on the schedule to highlight is Thursday, April 14th when the boys will be playing Mishicot at the home of the Green Bay Rockers in Green Bay.

Fans, come to games this season to enjoy and support Lancer baseball!

Girls Track Team Takes 6th At Lincoln Indoor

The Lancer girls track team began its season in fine form, finishing in 6th place out of 15 teams, and as the Isabella Blauert races well ahead of the competition in the final leg of the girls 4 lap relay at the Pam Kjono Invite Friday at JFK Fieldhouse/Lincoln High School. The Lancers had 6 medalist finishes at the meet, highlighted with an event title in the 4x400 relay, as our relay team of senior Emily Marohn and freshmen Maren Dewane, Ginevra Ermis, and Addie Korte had a decisive victory, finishing in 4:43.09, 7 seconds ahead of 2nd place Manitowoc Lincoln.

Marohn made the podium in her other two events as well, capturing 2nd place in the 55m hurdles in 9.82 seconds, and taking 4th place in long jump with a 14’ 5” leap. Our 4x160 (4 lap) relay took 2nd place, featuring junior Isabella Blauert, sophomore Peyton Luebke and freshmen Dewane and Bitsy Blauert. More 4th places were earned by Peyton Luebke in the 200m (30.77) and senior MonRaye Ermis in the shot put (33’ 7”). Also earning points for the Lancers with 8th place finishes were senior Emma Miller in the long jump (13’ 11.5”) and freshman Selah Schulz in the 400m (1:12.96). Full results are on athletic.net.

The 15 teams at the meet were divided equally among Division 1, 2 and 3 schools. De Pere High School took the team title with 96 points, followed by Kimberly with 90. The Lancers captured 43 points, 3 points ahead of 7th place Ozaukee.

Coach Bubolz was pleased with the Lancers’ first meet of the season, “Great job to our competing athletes. This is not an easy meet. Indoor itself can be overwhelming. We had many brand-new athletes. This is our first time on a track this year. They did a great job and we had no missed events, dropped batons, etc. We had a lot of great performances and definitely great effort all around! I'm really proud of these kids.”

The Lancers are off of competition this week as they prepare for their first outdoor meets of the season next week. They’ll be traveling to Hilbert on Tuesday, April 5th for a 4:30pm quadrangular, and then two days later on April 7th they head to Oostburg for another 4:30pm quad meet.

Congrats to our Lancer tracksters for a great start to their season!
