Curriculum/Special Education

ELA

  • Recommended Resources:
    • The Units of Study for Reading and Writing
    • Words Their Way & ZB Spelling Connections
    • Shurley English & Easy Grammar
  • 6+1 Traits of Writing:  Jon Roux led our group through a 3-session workshop on utilization of the 6+1 Traits of Writing in 2021-2022.  Our LLS are encouraged to implement this program in their respective schools.
  • The Units of Study:  Due to publishing and supply chain issues, the new Units of Study are still not available at this time.  I will let schools know when we have more information on availability.
  • Design Days:  Once the new Units of Study are available, each school that is utilizing our recommended resource (Units of Study for Reading and Writing) will be invited to Unit Design Days at MLHS.  Instruction and assessment with the new Units of Study will be the focus of these days.  Teachers will have the opportunity to plan instruction collaboratively as well as share resources and ideas.  More info will come once these are scheduled.

Math Update

  • Our math team had our 2nd meeting in September.  This group continues to:
    • Write Exit Goals for Graduation
    • Write our LLS Mathematics Philosophy
    • Evaluate Resources (So far- intoMath, i-Ready Math and envision Math) to bring a recommendation to our LLS
  • We are reading through Mathematical Mindsets by Jo Boaler. We will discuss chapters 3-4 at our next meeting.
  • Our next meeting is on October 21st at MLHS in Room 210.  We will have pizza for lunch. 

Fastbridge

  • Our first round of assessments is underway (11 LLS assessing 630+ students)
  • MLHS freshmen were assessed in reading and math.  Overall results (not individual) were shared with our LLS principals.
  • Keturah Hochmuth is willing and has offered to help individual schools with their first round of assessments and guidance on how to understand the data once completed. 
  • The LLS SPED Team will meet in October to plan help with reading interventions for our LLS.  This will include future training in the Barton Reading and Spelling Program.

Early Childhood Events

  • We held our first LLS Professional Development Day on Saturday, October 1st.  The topic was A Fresh Look at Positive Guidance.  Thank you for all of those who attended. 
  • Our Next Early Childhood Director Virtual Roundtable is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19th at 3:30pm.

Save the Date: Our next Professional Development morning will be held on January 7th @ 8:30am.

Thanks to all the kids who came to the "Night with the Lancers!" 

  1. Throughout the month of October, 1st-2nd graders will be coming to MLHS for Future Lancer Field Trips. Students will be doing an activities with teachers, as well as attending chapel.
  2. Fall Festival - October 23rd - Doors open at 2pm - Concert at 4pm - Come for pies, ice cream, coffee, silent auction, and entertainment for ALL!

Here you will find information from Manitowoc Lutheran High School and any other information you want shared with other school in the Lakeshore Lutheran Schools.

Call Update
On September 22 nd, the MLHS Board of Control, issued a call to Pastor Kock to serve full time in our theology department. Pastor Kock would also teach Latin 1 and 2.  If he accepts this call, the MLHS Federation would look to call a new President as soon as possible. Regardless of his decision, President Kock would continue to serve as MLHS President for the remainder of this school year. Please pray for him, his family, and MLHS during this time of deliberation. Academic Award Night
During the 2021-2022 school year, 87 Lancer students became eligible for special academic recognition.
These students achieved honor roll status, a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for both semesters.
The Academic Awards Night is designed to recognize these accomplishments achieved with God’s blessings. Congratulations on your academic success last year, and continued success this year. These 87 students will be recognized October 6th at 8PM in the MLHS Gym.
 
Grandparents Day
Only one week until Grandparents Day! On Thursday, October 13th we will have our annual Grandparent's Day! During this day Grandparents will join for a morning social, a Q&A with the students, a Chapel service, and they also get to attend classes with their grandchild(ren)! CLICK HERE to register.

Junior Lancer Open Registrations for: GO TO www.mlhslancers.org/jrlancers
Jr. Lancer Youth Choir
Returning this year is the Jr. Lancer Youth Choir.  The JLYC exists to minister to and bless the families and community of the Lakeshore Lutheran Schools by offering our students in grades 4-8 an additional opportunity to praise our Lord and Savior, to grow in musicianship, to develop healthy vocal habits, and to nurture Christian friendships.  JLYC will only meet during the 1 st semester, and rehearsals will take place on Saturdays from 8:30-9:15.  We will be asking you to distribute information to your 4 th – 8 th students and their parents to inform, invite, and encourage your 4 th-8 th grade students to join the Jr. Lancer Youth Choir.

  • December 22nd: MLHS Christmas Concert at 4:30 & 7:30pm at the Capitol Civic Centre
  • February 17th: Lakeshore Lutheran Children’s Choral Festival at MLHS from 1:00-6:00pm (Concert at 6:00pm in the MLHS Gym)
  • March  10th: Spring Musical Matinee Performance for Lakeshore Lutheran Schools at 9:00am in the MLHS Gym

Family of Six - Needs a Home by Nov. 9th!

Trinity Lutheran School is hiring an afternoon lead teacher / childcare position (Monday-Friday, approx 28 hrs/wk) for the upcoming 2022-23 school year in our Early Childhood Education Program. Trinity is looking for applicants who are at least 18 years old and eager to work with children ranging in age from 3 to 12 years old. Experience is preferred but not required. Lakeshore Lutheran League and Athletics

B-Volleyball- The 5th-6th grade volleyball season wraps up this Saturday, October 8th with the end-of-the-year tournament at Zion Wayside.

A-Volleyball- The 7th-8th grade volleyball league tournament is October 14-15. The bracket for this tournament will be sent out to all schools on Monday, October 10th. The first 2 rounds of games will be played  on Friday, October 14th at the #1-#4 seeds. The final rounds of the tournament will be played at MLHS on Saturday, October 15th.

Cross Country- The Manitowoc Lutheran High School grade school cross country meet will be on Monday, October 10th. The boys race will begin at 4:30 and the girls race will begin at 4:50. Awards will be handed out in the MLHS commons after the races.

Lakeshore Lutheran League Meeting- The LLL Athletic Directors will be meeting after the cross country meet at MLHS. This meeting will begin at 6:00.

Basketball Season- Our schools can begin basketball practices as soon as volleyball is completed. First games of the season are on Friday, November 11.
