Math Update

  • Thank you to our LLS Math Curriculum Team members for all of their hard work:
    • Sarah Augustine, Karen Wordell, Ann Wilson, Chad Marohn, Ryan Jaeger, Phil Hochmuth, Sarah Marohn, Becky Yagodinski, Adam Glodowski, & Peter Kavicky
  • Remaining Meeting Dates:
    • February 24, 2023 (12:00pm-3:00pm)
    • March 3, 2023 (12:00pm-3:00pm)
  • Update:
    • We have narrowed the field down to two remaining math programs.
    • We have 6 LLS teachers piloting different levels of these two programs this month as we finalize our recommendation.  Thank you to these team members for their willingness to do this work!
    • We need to finalize our exit goals for graduation.
    • Once our recommendation is finalized:
      • The K-8 LLS Math Curriculum Guides will be shared with you via Google Docs.
      • A special meeting will be scheduled with principals (or another rep from your school) to share information on our recommendation(s).

Early Childhood

  • One more EC Professional Development Morning remains:
    • Saturday, April 1st- Conducting Effective & Developmentally Appropriate Group Times: Most early childhood programs have at least one large group meeting per day.  This training will help providers spice up their group times and motivate children to participate.  Age-appropriate group times and activities are emphasized and many new ideas are presented.
    • This workshop will be held in the commons at MLHS.  A light breakfast and fellowship will begin at 8:30am.  The workshop will run from 9am to 11am.

LLS Special Education Team

  • Schools have 5 testing windows available with Fastbridge.  You do not need to utilize all 5; however, our team would recommend a minimum of 3 assessments per year (beginning, middle and end).  The summer assessment window serves the purpose of assessing new students coming to your school.
  • Keturah Hochmuth is willing to come out to your school to help with your next round of assessments.  Email her at khochmuth@mlhslancers.org.
  • Big Picture of our work:
    • Utilize Fastbridge as a universal screener, dyslexia screener, progress monitoring tool and for Tier 1 & 2 interventions.
    • Barton Reading & Spelling Program for Tier 3- training will be provided after 2nd screening:
      • Training will be held sometime in late February or early March
      • Train on Barton Levels 1-2 this year
      • Mentors assigned to your interventionists
    • Foundations in Sounds- for those not ready for Barton (Training will be provided in the future)
    • Program expansion timeline:
      • 2022-2023- Reading- Grades 1-2
      • 2023-2024- Math Grades 1-2 / Reading Grade 3
      • 2024-2025- Continue to expand 1 grade level per year
    • Support implementation of Fastbridge, interventions, and implementation of new programs as we are able.

Summer In-Service Days:

  • June 5, 6 & 7 are reserved for summer professional development.  Please keep these days open on your calendar.  Each day will have a specific theme.  Not all days will be appropriate for all teachers.
  • The 3 themes are:
    • Curriculum Work
    • Reading Interventions
    • Early Childhood
  • More information will be shared in the near future once presenters are finalized.

Admissions/Recruitment
