Curriculum/Special Education

Math Update

  • Our next Math Team meeting is scheduled for December 9th from noon until 3pm at MLHS in Room 210.

  • The goal is to finalize our recommendation at our March 3, 2023 meeting.  A special meeting will be scheduled at MLHS shortly after to present on our recommendation.  Principals and/or a representative from each school will be invited to attend.  This will give schools some time to evaluate and discuss before any ordering needs to take place in the summer months.

Math Resources

Online games, lessons, quizzes, manipulatives and more.

Early Childhood

  • Early Childhood Director Virtual Roundtable- Wednesday, January 18th at 6:30pm.

  • LLS Early Childhood Professional Development Morning- Saturday, January 7th:

  • Sensory Play- More than the Sand Table: Young children learn through their senses.  In this session, teachers will learn about the “7” senses and the value of sensory play.  Introductory information is presented on sensory processing disorders and sensory integration dysfunction in children.  Other topics include potential safety issues, how to prevent accidents during sensory play, and many other activities or suggestions for activities.

  • This workshop will be held in the commons at MLHS.  A light breakfast and fellowship will begin at 8:30am.  The workshop will run from 9am to 11am.

LLS Special Education Team

  • Schools have 5 testing windows available with Fastbridge.  You do not need to utilize all 5; however, our team would recommend a minimum of 3 assessments per year (beginning, middle and end).  The summer assessment window serves the purpose of assessing new students coming to your school.

  • Keturah Hochmuth is willing to come out to your school to help with your next round of assessments and/or with reading reports.  Email her at khochmuth@mlhslancers.org

  • UPDATE: Barton Reading and Spelling Program- Last year, our LLS SPED Team recommended the Barton Reading and Spelling Program (along with Fastbridge) for a high-quality reading intervention program.

Our team is willing to (if there is interest):

  • Offer training to any and all reading interventionists that will be implementing Barton.  We were waiting until schools had a 2nd FAST data point to identify students in need of reading intervention before offering training and support with Barton.

  • Training on the 1st level of Barton will be offered in late January or early February.

  • Training on the 2nd level of Barton will be offered in late February or early March.

  • We have trained, experienced Barton mentors ready to assist your interventionists. They will help and support implementation throughout the school year as they are able.

  • More information will be provided by Mr. Marohn to principals soon.

  • Principals- Title 1,2 or 4 funds can be used to purchase Barton.
