MLHS Cross Country Runs Well in Heat

The Lancer Cross Country team competed in Green Bay on Thursday 9/1 at the Tom Finlan Memorial Invitational hosted by Preble. The meet was held at Josten Park and teams in attendance included host Preble, Green Bay East, Green Bay Southwest, Bonduel, Manitowoc Lincoln, Notre Dame, Omro, Providence Academy, Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan North, Sturgeon Bay and NEWCCHA. It was a warm 86 degree afternoon and the Lancers handled the weather well as they knew it was out of their control. On a day that warm the focus is more on place vs. time.

The JV girls started off the meet with all 4 girls running their first Cross Country race. Bitsy Blauert led the way with a 17th place finish and medal for her effort. Followed by her teammates Paula de la gala Moreta, Greta Buege and Carissa Meidl.

JV Boys were up next led by Robbie Wall in 42nd place with a time of 25:55. Ricky Li had another lifetime best this week running a 26:03. The boys’ JV team took 6th place.

Girls’ Varsity was the 3rd race of the afternoon. The Varsity team took 8th place in the 13 team meet. The top girls’ finisher for the Lancers was sophomore Trisha Kiss placing 18th which earned her a medal in a time of 24:18. Girls’ Varsity finishers included Senior Isabella Blauert, Junior Taylor Schuettpelz, Freshmen Sarah Welnicke and Robin Knutson, and Senior Myra Liermann. The race was won individually by Haily Novitski of Green Bay Preble in a time of 20:55. The top girls’ team was Green Bay Preble with 21 points.

Boys’ Varsity patiently tried to stay cool as they waited for the last race of the day. The Lancer boys’ team took 4th place out of 13 teams. The 3 teams that beat them were Division 1 schools that are significantly larger than our Division 3 school. They were led again by the duo of Senior Jonah Melso 18:53 and Sophomore Jacob Kanzenbach 18:53 in 19th and 20th respectively. Both of them earned medals by placing in the top 20. Varsity was rounded out by senior captain Seth Ciha, sophomore Ryder Vogt, freshman Trenton Schuettpelz, and sophomores Joey Ungemach and Braden Revak. The boys’ overall winner was Manitowoc Lincoln’s senior Mason Gates in a time of 16:14. The boys’ team title was won by Green Bay Preble with 43 points.

The next meet on the schedule for the Lancers is the Sue Schmitt Roncalli Invitational held in Manitowoc at Lincoln Park on Saturday September 10th. Boys Varsity and JV Race at 9:30 am, followed by Girls Varsity and JV at 10:15 am. This is one of only two meets we have in Manitowoc. Come join us! Take walk through the park, stop by the zoo, and cheer on 34 Lancer Runners! Results will be at www.adesports.com

Panthers Rushing Attack Too Much for Lancers

The Lancers were held scoreless Friday night as the Reedsville Panthers came to town. The Panthers stacked up 412 rushing yards on 52 carries between a host of running backs. Leading the charge was Dain Totten who rushed for 190 yards on 19 carries while Ryan Taddy added 155 yards on 16 carries. Taddy threw the ball only three times one for a touchdown, one incomplete and the other was intercepted in the end zone by lancer sophomore Logan Brooks.

The Lancers were led in passing by junior quarterback Brayden Bennett who was 9 of 16 for 91 yards and in interception. Leading receivers for the Lancers were a contingent of 3 seniors Caleb Uhlhorn, 3 receptions/14 yards, Dylan Fischer 3 receptions/29 yards and Kaden Hagenow 2 receptions/40 yards. The Lancer rushing attack was once again led by sophomore Kamden Baye who carried the ball 13 times for 47 yards. Some late game excitement came when junior Kaeden Storzer broke free with a 40 yard run.

Defensively the Lancers were led in tackles by Storzer with 13 total tackles, Uhlhorn (9), Hagenow (6), Wyatt Richard (6).

This week the Lancers travel to Howards Grove to take on the 2-1 Howards Grove Tigers. 7:00 pm Howards Grove High School.

Volleyball Loses Home Opener

The Lancer volleyball team looked strong early taking the first game of four 25-23 on Thursday Night, but three consecutive games of strong offense and timely defense by the Zephyrs was more than the Lancers could handle. The Zephyrs out scored the Lancers 75-37 in the final three.

The Lancers look to rebound this week as they take on Mishicot on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at MLHS. If you can't make it to the game be sure to check it out on Livestream. Thursday the Lancers travel to Hilbert to take on the Wolves, that game can be viewed live HERE. 7:00pm. Go Lancers!
